01.13.2012 Six Steps to Getting Started as a Volunteer: Getting involved in Hospice Volunteering can be a little overwhelming at first. Here are six key steps to make sure you have a great volunteer experience:
1. Time To Give? -- First, determine how much time you have available. You don't want to over commit and leave the organization in a lurch, and you don't want to get yourself into situation where you're not enjoying the work you're doing.
2. Setting the Stage -- Next, determine what kind of environment you want to work in as a volunteer. Outdoors? Indoors? At a desk? In front of an audience? Not every organization can offer all these environments.
3. Does Cause Matter? -- Cause refers to the specific mission of an organization: the goals they are working for. Do you find yourself energized and inspired to change the world in one specific fashion?
4. Now You Can Start -- Once you've thought about availability, environment and cause, you're ready to search. But where do you start? Right here in Facebook with this opportunity.
5. Getting Social – Sign up for a free training that Hospice Touch offers.
Four Consecutive Friday Mornings, January 20th, 27th and February 10th and 17th from 9 am – 12 noon, in Irvine.

6. Give Back and Get Ahead -- Finally, don't be afraid to look for opportunities that can help you professionally or academically. Lots of projects will look great on your resume or your college application. The more you can find something that aligns your needs with the needs of an organization, the more likely you are to have a great experience. Happy Volunteering!

11.29.2011 Healing Hearts Fundraiser:A fundraising campaign for the Healing Hearts Association is kicking off and this is your invitation to participate. The purpose of this campaign, known as the Multiple Campaign, is to have 30 people ask 30 of their friends, family and business contacts to donate $30.00 to reach our goal of $35,000 in 30 days.
This is a wonderful cause. The Healing Hearts Association is a non-profit foundation that works with families that have recently dealt with or will be dealing with a loss of a family member. One of the greatest programs supported by Healing Hearts is called Camp Erin. This camp is for children ages 6-17 who have lost a parent, grandparent, or sibling in the past year. It is a wonderful 3 day experience, FREE of charge to the families, where kids get to meet other kids experiencing the same pain. The camp features both clinical activities for grief as well as good old fashioned camp fun! Healing Hearts also helps families with a loved one still on hospice, with financial assistance, and granting memories to families who have someone with a terminal illness.
Since we all will deal with the loss of a family member sometime in our life, it is wonderful to know that there is an organization out there that will help those that might need a little more support getting through that tough time.
To take part and donate $30.00, just go to the website, www.hhassn.org, and click on the donate button. Then, send this letter to 30 friends and family members and encourage their participation.
Thank you in advance for your support of the campaign to help grieving children and families during a most difficult time in their lives.
